Duration: 100 minutes*
The Allergen Awareness video e-Learning course is an interactive and fully-certified training scheme for business owners, managers and all other staff in the restaurant, catering and food preparation industries. This course is fully certified and approved by RoSPA and the CPD, and is designed to inform your approach to food safety through the lens of allergen awareness and safe food preparation.
With a number of tragic cases making headlines in recent years, the public awareness of food allergies is higher than ever. The number of people being diagnosed with allergies also appears to be rising, with an increasing number becoming allergic to more specific and unusual foods. The result is a pressing need for businesses to train employees and put the proper protocols in place – both from a legal perspective and to offer clear information and choices to customers.
This Allergen Awareness online course covers general allergies, food allergies and food intolerances, and explains the differences between them. Beginning with an overview of allergies and why they are becoming more common, the course covers the 14 different allergens controlled by current legislation, as well as common food additives, and the means by which they can trigger allergic reactions.
The Allergen Awareness video course also takes a detailed look at the symptoms of food allergies, helping candidates to recognise when an allergic reaction is taking place and to act appropriately. It then finishes off by covering practical steps that can be taken to reduce the severe risk posed by allergens, and the steps that can be taken both internally and externally to monitor control measures.
SAMS also offer a range of food safety courses for the service sector, including the Level 1 and Level 2 Awards in Food Safety for Catering, as well as a range of courses for other food sectors.
The Allergen Awareness video course provides an ideal overview of allergens and their associated risks. It is ideal for anyone in the service sector, including:
- Business owners
- Managers
- Supervisors
- Back-of-house staff (food preparation)
- Front-of-house staff (servers, cleaners)
- Factory workers
